HVAC Emergency? We Come to You.

In San Antonio, an AC failure in July or August isn't an inconvenience — it can be life-threatening. Indoor temperatures in a home without AC can exceed 100°F within hours on a hot San Antonio summer day. Heat-related illness kills people in Bexar County every year, disproportionately affecting elderly residents, young children, and people with cardiac or respiratory conditions.

Good Times HVAC provides same-day emergency response 7 days a week. Jimmy Crenshaw and Austin Privett understand that when it's 105°F outside and your AC just stopped working, waiting until Monday is not an option. One call and we're on the way.

We tell you the service call fee before any technician is dispatched. We diagnose on-site, give you the price to repair, and fix it the same day in most cases. No surprises, no games, just your system running again as fast as possible.

When to Call for Emergency HVAC Service

Not every HVAC problem is a true emergency. Use these criteria to decide when to call immediately vs. schedule a standard appointment:

Call immediately — these are genuine emergencies:

  • Complete AC failure when temps exceed 95°F — Especially if elderly, infant, or medically vulnerable household members are present. Indoor temps can become dangerous within 2–3 hours.
  • Carbon monoxide alarm triggered — Leave the building immediately. Do not investigate yourself. Call 911 first, then us.
  • Gas smell near furnace or air handler — Leave the building. Do not use electrical switches. Call CPS Energy Gas Emergency: 210-353-2222, then call us.
  • Electrical burning smell from any HVAC component — Burning electrical smell indicates active arcing or component failure. Turn off the system at the breaker if safe to do so. Do not operate until inspected.
  • Refrigerant line icing — Ice forming on the refrigerant lines outside the unit indicates refrigerant loss or airflow failure. Not immediately dangerous but needs same-day attention to prevent compressor damage.
  • No heat when temperatures drop below 35°F — January cold snaps in San Antonio can drop to 25–30°F. A home without heat at these temperatures becomes dangerous for vulnerable household members.

Schedule a standard appointment — these can wait:

  • AC running but not reaching setpoint on a mild day
  • Higher than normal energy bills without other symptoms
  • Unusual noise without system shutdown
  • AC intermittently working and not working

What to Do Before We Arrive

While you're waiting for our technician, these steps keep you safer and may protect your equipment:

  • AC failure in summer heat: Move vulnerable household members to the coolest room or to a neighbor/family member with AC. Close blinds and curtains on sun-facing windows. Use battery-powered fans if available. Stay hydrated. Call 211 (San Antonio social services) if you need a cooling center location.
  • System completely off: Check your circuit breaker first — sometimes a tripped breaker is the only issue. If the breaker trips again immediately after resetting, do not reset it again. Call us.
  • AC freezing up: Turn the system to "Fan Only" mode (not OFF, not COOL) to allow the ice to melt. This prevents compressor damage while you wait. Once ice is melted, our tech can properly diagnose.
  • Gas smell: Leave the building, leave the door open as you exit, call CPS Gas at 210-353-2222 from outside. Do not re-enter until cleared.
  • Carbon monoxide alarm: Leave immediately, call 911. CO is odorless and colorless — do not re-enter to investigate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as an HVAC emergency?

AC failure in extreme heat (especially 95°F+), carbon monoxide detection, gas smell, electrical burning odors, and no heat during freezing temperatures all qualify. When in doubt — call. We'll assess over the phone and give you our honest assessment of urgency.

How fast can you respond?

Same-day, 7 days a week. Most San Antonio service areas: 2–4 hours from your call. We give you an estimated arrival time when you call so you know what to expect.

Is there an extra fee for emergency service?

After-hours and same-day calls may include a service call fee. We tell you the fee before dispatch — no surprises. We don't think it's right to hide emergency surcharges until the tech is already at your house.

What if I smell gas near my furnace?

Leave the building immediately. Do not use light switches or anything electrical inside the house. Call CPS Energy gas emergency line from outside: 210-353-2222. Then call us at (210) 760-6407. This is a gas emergency first, HVAC emergency second.

Does heat really kill people in San Antonio?

Yes. San Antonio and Bexar County record heat-related deaths every summer, particularly among elderly residents, those without AC, and people with cardiac conditions. Indoor temperatures in an uncooled San Antonio home can reach 95–105°F within a few hours on a 100°F day. If you or a family member is in a vulnerable category, please call immediately — don't wait to see if it gets better.
